DOE and EPA Resources, Just a Click Away!

While achieving the benefits of energy and motor management may seem like a daunting task, remember a wealth of resources, including those from the MDM Campaign, is at your fingertips. A sample of resources provided by the US Department of Energy (DOE) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) appear below:

  • DOE Industrial Assessment Centers: teams of engineering faculty and students located at 26 universities throughout the US are available to conduct energy assessments at eligible small- and medium-sized industrial plants. Among other benefits, energy assessments identify opportunities for efficiency and productivity improvements.
  • DOE Save Energy Now: a program to partner with DOE to reduce energy intensity 25% in 10 years. Participants have priority access to DOE energy assessments and other resources to achieve their energy reduction goals.
  • DOE State Incentives and Resources Database: online, searchable database with information describing 4200+ energy efficiency programs including energy efficiency incentives, rebates, and other resources offered by local utilities, federal and state agencies. Includes programs for motors and motor systems and many others.
  • EPA ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry: a national call-to-action that aims to improve the energy efficiency of America's commercial and industrial buildings by 10 percent or more through partnership with EPA. Industrial sites that achieve a 10% efficiency improvement in 5 years are recognized by EPA.
  • EPA Facility Energy Assessment Matrix: interactive spreadsheet tool designed to help energy managers evaluate energy management at their facilities.
  • EPA Industries in Focus and Industry Energy Efficiency Guides: Industries in Focus provides an opportunity to network with industry peers to develop the corporate structure, systems, and tools to improve energy intensity within an industry. The Energy Efficiency Guides identify energy intensity trends and propose a framework for implementing energy efficiency opportunities specific to 11 industries ranging from breweries to pulp and paper manufacturing.

Maintenance Technology magazine runs a bi-monthly column, "Boosting Your Bottom Line", contributed by the MDM Campaign, that discusses motor management strategies ranging from motor maintenance to creating a spares inventory.

The January issue of Maintenance Technology magazine and the January/February issue of Lubrication Management & Technology featured the article "Is it Time for An Energy Assessment?" which suggests motor management strategies to take the first step on a path toward energy management.

The March issue of Maintenance Technology magazine featured the article "Getting the Most Out of An Energy Assessment" which suggests simple steps to realize an assessment's value, including developing a plan and assigning clear roles.

Visit the MDM Press Room to check out a full library of articles featuring motor management.
