MDM Welcomes Alliant Energy

We'd like to welcome Alliant Energy as the newest sponsor of the MDM campaign. Headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, Alliant Energy serves approximately 1 million electric customers and more than 400,000 natural gas customers in much of Iowa and parts of Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
alliant

Alliant Energy offers a wide range of financial, consulting, and educational servicestohome, farm, and business customers. For commercial and industrial motor systems, Alliant provides its Iowa customers with the Iowa Motors and Variable Frequency Drives program. The utility also connects Wisconsin customers to the Focus on Energy Business Programs, including incentives for premium-efficiency motors and VFDs. In addition to providing financial incentives, Alliant Energy recommends that customers consider a proactive approach to motor replacement by taking action before motor failure occurs.

“We are hoping to enhance our programs over time by integrating motor management into the business solutions we offer our customers,” says Nicole Healey, Product Manager in DSM Programs and New Product Development. “We look forward to sharing information and learning from all the campaign sponsors.”

Regional Venues: EASA New England Chapter

CEE Program Manager Ilene Mason was invited to speak about motor management when EASA's New England Chapter convened in Dedham, Massachusetts, on November 16.* In her presentation, Mason discussed how promoting motor management can enhance customer relationships and increase sales and services. Cherie Miles of NSTAR and Sarah Dagher of National Grid were also invited to speak about their organizations' motor incentive programs. They highlighted how working with efficiency programs like theirs can help EASA members add value to customer relationships.

MDM, NSTAR, and National Grid were invited to the EASA meeting by chapter president Tony Rapoza, owner of Delta Electro Power in Cranston, R.I. "I wanted to share MDM's motor management message with other EASA members," Rapoza said. He had benefited from MDM's "Bottom Line" presentation, and the subsequent networking session, at CEE's program meeting in June. During the networking session, Rapoza met a lighting contractor who was participating in an energy savings program administered by National Grid. "The lighting contractor and I collaborated on several projects," said Rapoza. "Working with the efficiency program led to new customers and motor sales that I wouldn't have had otherwise."

These are the kind of partnerships the MDM campaign strives to facilitate. Both the June CEE meeting and the November EASA Chapter meeting are examples of events that promote the business opportunity of motor management and the benefits of partnering with local utility programs. Educational sessions like these are great opportunities for efficiency program administrators and motor professionals to meet and begin building relationships.

Check the MDM calendar for events in your area, or host one of your own. MDM staff can help find industry contacts in your region. Working together, we can deliver the message at the regional level.
