2:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern Time

On December 19, 2007, President Bush signed the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act into law. The new law contains energy efficiency provisions for three major categories of industrial motors. These new motor efficiency standards will have wide-ranging impacts on industrial efficiency programs, motor manufacturers, motor service centers, and anyone whose customers buy, operate, or maintain commercial and industrial motors.

Presented by Dain Hansen, the Government Relations Manager for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), this informational session will review the basics of the motor-related provisions, including:

  • The scope of electric motors affected by the new efficiency standards
  • A general overview of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) rulemaking process and timeline for implementing new efficiency standards
  • How NEMA is working with DOE to define the technical details
  • The status of related legislation currently under consideration by Congress
As the Government Relations Manager at NEMA, Dain's portfolio includes energy policy and appropriations. His previous experience includes work on Capitol Hill as the Senior Legislative Assistant for a senior member of congress on the Appropriations committee.
